Rule 101 of every home should be “tidy as you mess up” just, as my mum always says. As I have gained my independence I have come to understood why momma went on and on about this. Her most popular saying is “I hope my kitchen is sparkling? You can only achieve a spotless kitchen if you tidy as you cook.”

When you tidy as you make the mess, it saves you the whole stress of cleaning a whole messy kitchen for about 30 minutes or an hour deepening on how big the mess is. In the kitchen as you make a cuppa, wipe down surfaces, keep back ingredients in the right places, and wash out cup and spoon after you done with your cuppa, no point keeping it on the kitchen counter or in the sink, because it will only keep piled up. (Looking at the piled up mess will discouraged you to clean) Washing up as you cook has also proven to help me also save electricity cost of using my dishwasher, and also giving me a clean house, and kitchen.

When I am making dinner, let’s say making a pot of soup, I cut my meat, before washing it to put on the gas, I quickly wash off the knife and chopping board and store, then wash the meat put in pot and on fire. I then wash off the bowl and store.(no work to be done again) I get a saucer to put the spoon I will use to be staring  the soup. Once soup is ready, I dish out everyone’s food; I turn what is left in the pot into a microwaveable container, and leave to cool down, den wash off the pot and then sit to have my dinner. Once dinner is over, I encourage my siblings to wash their dishes after dinner. This has saved me the whole cleaning, washing, and cursing and sweating.

I also try to sweep the lounge every night or early morning before I go to work, and dust up and keep things in order before I leave the house, and always make my bed before I leave for work. I also brush up any crumbs and wipe any spills as they are being made. And I have made it a habit of walking through the door from work, keeping my laptop bag at its appointed space, shoes on the rack, and clothes hanged or left out to air.  (shhhh… when my husband come back and drops his stuff around, after much talking that did not help, I usually hide his socks or pair of shoes, and when he starts asking, I say if only you keep your stuff at the right place, it save you the stress of looking. Did it help…. Ahhhh well a little)

We have a basket in the toilet for dirty clothes which thanks to my darling husband he never allows to over flow with clothes. (I hate doing laundry). I also rinse the sink after I brush my teeth, and give the toilet a good scrub every Saturday. I usually use Saturdays to cobweb, and also mop all the hidden corners, which is usually half an hour worth of work on Saturdays to give my one room apartment a good scrub.

Remember little steps go a long way. Remain blessed.
