Hospital bill
Happy new year ya all. To the glory of our most precious Lord, I had my baby on Halloween day and I testify that the Lord indeed was faithful. I will send another post with my delivery experience.
Now after a month of delivery, I received my hospital bill. Boy was I shocked and had sleepless night.
When we found out we were pregnant, I started all the research on how and what to do and what the cost implication would be since I had no health insurance, because of my previous surgery the Dr told me I was going to have Cs delivery.
I contacted SAN Joaquin hospital in Bakersfield and I got a price for $8000 for C s delivery, I did ask all the relevant questions like was this part of my room and board for I and my baby and was it inclusive of her first shorts, pediatricians bill, and what not, after being tossed from one department to the other I got different prices for out of pocket paying patients. I worked so hard to save for this money.
Had my baby went home happy. Boom I saw my bill a month later and I was billed $40,000 for just myself and about $4000 for my daughter I got a discount for out of patient cost that left my bill at $13800 and my daughters to $2000.
This excludes my Dr's bill and tests I ran and flu jab, and the service of an anesthesiologist. I had to call and pay a deposit of $300 because I know that if I did not put down a deposit ahead I could get charged double the amount after delivery.
I had to ask for an itemized bill. And I went through it and found out that I was charged about $4000 daily for a semi suit I never requested for. Next time I will have my baby and ask if there was a recovery ward I could go to save cost. I was also charged for the anesthetic drug it's self for about $2000 excluding the Dr that I had paid a deposit for. There were some errors in the bill which was corrected and left my bill at $10000 and my daughter's at $2000.
Any hospital that cannot give me a written bill, I will not go there for any procedure because that bill can be manipulated. When I called the hospital the excuse was that it was a quote and that I had nothing in writing. There is a huge difference between a quote of $8000 and one that skyrockets to $40,000. They also charged about $23,000 for using the theater. I also go a separate bill of about $275 for the pediatrician.
So for the hospital alone without Insurance I was billed approximately $12,000 for my daughter and I. I also paid for lab work, pediatrician services from the hospital and also the pathologist that reviewed my lab work. Then you pay extra for an assisted Dr that would be in the theater with you while you have the surgery, will be good to call ahead of time and ask your Dr who that would be and make a negotiation.
If you cannot meet up with the whole bulk of your bill, you can arrange for an interest free payment plan.
Have a wonderful day.
